I chose to research tattoos, because there are two opposite opinions about tattoo in society. Some say tattoos are beautiful, others- they are ugly. My aim is to find the way how to play with aesthetic meaning.

Research question for my project: How to show double meaning about aesthetics using tattoo elements?

My process - research, collect tattoo clichés, redraw them

I focused on a tattoo symbol clichés, that we all have seen, and they are also used a lot in other fields as decorative ornament. If we use something long time, it becomes recognisable from a first look, we don’t look for its meaning, we already know it. I decided to use this point in opposite direction. To communicate by showing something traditional, well known, but to change the content, play with meaning, play with aesthetics.
